What if you could prevent even one family member from hearing the words, ?You have cancer??

The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers from the Vanderbilt community to become ?champions? who spread the word about a historic cancer research study coming to Langford Auditorium April 25.

Many individuals diagnosed with cancer struggle to answer the question ?What caused my cancer?? In many cases, the answer isn?t known. Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3) will help researchers better understand what factors cause cancer, and once discovered, how to be better equipped to prevent it.

Anyone who is interested in becoming a champion is welcome to do so?there are no specific age or other eligibility requirements. Champions are passionate about helping to discover better ways to prevent, treat and hopefully cure cancer.

Cancer survivors, caregivers to a cancer patient or those interested in honoring a friend or loved one who has battled cancer may serve as CPS-3 champions.

To become a champion, contact Wynett Jones with the Nashville office of the American Cancer Society at (615) 341-7332 or?wynett.jones@cancer.org.

The American Cancer Society will host an informal welcome session for all community champions at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Belmont University?s Troutt Theater.

More information is available here.
